This one story frame residence received a full second floor addition. First floor work included the conversion of a bedroom into an office and stair to the new second floor addition. The second floor addition provided two bedrooms, a study and a full bathroom. To minimize the disruption to the first floor ceilings we designed the structural system to sit above the existing attic floor structure leaving existing electrical and mechanical infrastructure in place without disturbing the ceiling surfaces below. The massing of the addition is set under an east-west facing gable roof with a south facing shed element giving full exposure to south sunlight to the two new bedrooms.
