This compact early 1900’s brick Georgian residence in Geneva, Illinois, was in need of additional space to accommodate a family room, mudroom, larger kitchen and master bedroom suite. With a classic center entry stair this project allowed for a very straight forward clean addition to the rear of the residence. The addition offset from the original brick box is a pristine wood frame and white clapboard clad structure housing a first floor mudroom and ¾ bath as well as a family room with access to the back yard. The existing kitchen was remodeled and partially expanded into the new addition. The wall between the kitchen and dining room was opened into an arch matching arches seen throughout the home. The second floor of the addition works well with the centered stair as the landing at the top of the stair once terminated into a window in the original home. The window was removed and became a door leading to a master suite with a generously sized bathroom, walk-in closet, and vaulted master bedroom. This project received a State of Illinois Tax Freeze, securing in the Owner’s property tax for the next eight years.
