This two-story wood frame residence in Geneva, Illinois was given an extensive face lift. The existing aluminum sided home with plastic shutters, rotted window sashes, and expired roofing were all removed and given a much needed modern farm house twist. Siding was replaced with HardiePlank Lap Siding and new door and window casings, sills and head details were provided appropriate for the farm house look that the homeowners wished to achieve. All windows were replaced with new Marvin units with divided lites accentuating the style. The roof was replaced with a new standing seam metal roof reducing maintenance and again helping to give the home a feel of life on the farm. As a last measure the front porch was modified with access from the sidewalk to the porch and the ceiling was opened allowing for a round opening to be cut into the gable end of the porch roof. The ceiling was vaulted, clad with stained beadboard, and tied with black powder coated metal rods with turn-buckles giving the entry area another opportunity to reflect the owners intended stylistic upgrade.
